Regional Commerce & Tourism Platform
VoltaMarket
A regional platform concept around markets, market days, local businesses, tourism, services and economic opportunities in Ghana's Volta Region.
Project status: Building / Developing
Project Overview
VoltaMarket is being explored as a regional digital ecosystem covering markets and market days, businesses, services, tourism and economic opportunities across the Volta Region.
Problem Identified
Commerce in the region is organised around markets and market days, but that information is fragmented and rarely online. Tourism, services and business opportunities sit in separate, disconnected places.
Proposed Solution
One regional platform that brings market information, business discovery, services and tourism into a single, navigable digital layer.
Target Users
- Traders and market vendors
- Regional SMEs and service providers
- Tourism operators and hosts
- Residents, travellers and the diaspora
Product Thinking
- Regional scope only works if each town's information is genuinely useful on its own.
- Market days are a recurring, practical hook that people actually plan around.
- Tourism and commerce reinforce each other when they share the same platform.
Key Features
- Market and market-day information
- Regional business and service discovery
- Tourism and attraction listings
- Town-level navigation
- Opportunity and commerce information
Technology & Product Approach
- Reusable platform structure shared with AkatsiMarket learnings
- Content model designed for towns, categories and recurring schedules
- Progressive rollout, town by town, rather than a region-wide launch
Lessons Learned
- Start narrow. A region is a collection of local problems, not one problem.
- Recurring information (market days) creates repeat usage better than static listings.
- Partnerships with local knowledge holders matter more than technology choices.
